Russia launches largest drone attack after peace talks, Ukraine says

“In the very beginning, during the first explosion I was at home with my little son. Then we went to the cellar all together. I always take cover in the cellar and drag children with me. Then my youngest son said: “Mommy, let’s go to the kindergarten.” I did not want to go and thought we will survive if there were just ten drones, it was not the first time in our life. But he insisted and we went to the kindergarten. Thank God we are alive, but I feel very sorry for neighbours. Young woman died. I cannot get over it. I simply cannot. I could clearly hear the drone flying right towards my house.”

Russia launched 273 drones by 8 a.m. local time (0500 GMT), targeting chiefly the central Kyiv region and the Dnipropetrovsk and Donetsk regions in the country’s east, Ukraine’s air force said.

Kyiv region resident Natalia Piven described how her family survived the attack after her son urged her to leave their home and take shelter at the local kindergarten. She said she was grateful to be alive, but felt sad that a woman in her neighborhood was killed.

The sustained overnight Russian drone attack on Sunday killed a 28-year-old woman in the capital region and injured at least three people, including a 4-year-old child, Ukrainian authorities said.

Both sides deny targeting civilians in the war, but thousands have been killed in the conflict, the vast majority of them Ukrainians.
