Call of Duty fans were devastated following the news of the shutdown of Call of Duty: Warzone for mobile devices. Activision’s official X account made the announcement today.

Play Store and iOS App Store on May 18, 2025, following which the game will no longer be available to download from either mobile platform. This is really unfortunate and likely has to do with revenue—more on which will be detailed below.

Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile is being killed off by Activision. The game was released on March 21, 2024, just over a year ago. This was Activision’s newest Call of Duty title for mobile devices, preceded by Call of Duty Mobile.

We deeply appreciate your dedication and passion for Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile. Going forward, we will be streamlining the scope of the game. This decision was made after careful consideration of various factors and while we’re proud of the accomplishment in bringing Call of…

Details were shared via the official Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile X account, which mentions a closure date of May 19, 2025, after which the game will no longer be downloadable on Android and iOS devices.

According to the post, Warzone Mobile failed to meet the team’s expectations, as it was not up to par with PC versions or other mobile releases.

It unfortunately has not met our expectations with mobile-first players like it has with PC and console audiences.

The game will not be receiving any seasonal updates or gameplay adjustments moving forward. Furthermore, all forms of microtransactions have been suspended, and players cannot purchase any in-game items using real money.

Players who have the game installed before Monday, May 19, 2025 will still have access to the game with continued cross-progression of shared inventories using existing content, and servers with matchmaking for online play

Interestingly, Activision has also clarified that players who already have the game installed can still continue with its cross-progression for some time, with unspent COD Points being redeemable against existing content.

Since its launch, Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile has not drawn many players, always managing to trail far behind the shadow of Call of Duty Mobile. As such, it should come as no surprise that Activision decided to axe the game.

Warzone Mobile was simply not drawing enough players (and, in turn, revenue) and was likely deemed unprofitable for Activision. The team has likely been dissolved and moved on to other projects.

The mobile gaming landscape is very competitive

Mobile gaming is a brutal playground, where competition is fierce. With so many options available, making a dent in the already established market is no easy task, and many fail along the way.

Warzone Mobile failed to make an impact and offer anything new to the already super-competitive market. To make matters worse, it was already overshadowed by an existing Call of Duty title for mobile, which lessened its popularity even more.

This is the sad reality of mobile gaming – where gaining an early foothold always helps, as does delivering a product that is unique and/or fills a certain niche in order to remain successful.
