How to Kill Stingrays in Helldivers 2

The Illuminate’s latest fleet has emerged from the Meridian Singularity and is heading straight towards Super Earth. For the first time in Helldivers 2, an enemy jet has appeared on the battlefield, testing players to their limits. The Stingray is a brand new Illuminate unit capable of performing some deadly strafing runs. The jet is indeed fast, but it’s not impossible to take it down.

The Illuminate is only a handful of planets away from Super Earth, so Helldivers must understand the weaknesses of these new enemies. An in-game message has confirmed that it is impossible to stop the Illuminate from reaching Super Earth, so players must prepare themselves for a war.

Stingrays are fast jets, but they have some weaknesses

Illuminate Stingrays usually patrol and scan the surface for targets. Once they spot a Helldiver, it performs a maneuver and prepares for a strafing run. It performs a heavy plasma fire in a long, straight line that can be seen on the battlefield. Its path is highlighted, and players only have a few seconds to avoid getting hit by its attack.

It’s impossible to hit the Stringray when it is moving at a fast pace. The only time players can hit it is when they are strafing. At this point, various heavy weapons can be used to take it out since it only has a medium armor, but their effectiveness depends on their lock-on time:

• FAF-14 Spear can take one down in a single shot, but the launcher needs some time to get a lock-on, making this not the best weapon against Stingrays.
• StA-X3 W.A.S.P. Launcher has a faster lock-on time and can destroy a Stingray in a single shot.
• E/MG-101 HMG Emplacement can destroy the wings of the Stingray.
• RL-77 Airburst Rocket Launcher can also take down the unit, but will require a lot of skill as it doesn’t exactly have a lock-on mechanism.

If you are not interested in taking down the Stingray using an explosive Stratagem, you can even use some medium-armour-penetrating support weapons, such as the MG-43 Machine Gun, the MG-206 Heavy Machine Gun, the LAS-98 Laser Cannon, and the AC-8 Autocannon with APHET rounds.

The Stingray has a pair of rapid-firing plasma repeaters, which don’t instantly kill Helldivers but take away a massive chunk of the health bar. However, the strafing run can be used to take out other Illuminate units. If players somehow manage to get hordes of enemies into the Stingray’s path, the jet will take them out. Pro tip: Make sure you don’t stand where the Stingray falls because its debris will certainly kill you if its strafing run doesn’t.

The Stingray is among many other Illuminate units that have recently appeared on the battlefield. This fleet has emerged from the Meridian Singularity, and since they are so close to Super Earth, it is difficult for Helldivers to slow them down.

The Illuminate faction that players were fighting earlier was only a small section of the entire faction. Now, Illuminate is slowly revealing why they are known as the deadliest race in the Helldivers universe.
