But amongst every other enemy, one seemingly elegant boss has recently gained a whole new identity thanks to a rather uncanny resemblance.

The Moonlight Butterfly from Dark Souls has now been dubbed “that monster from Nope” by the fans. And if you’ve seen Jordan Peele’s chilling sci-fi horror film, the comparison might just give you goosebumps.

The Moonlight Butterfly is one of the more visually mesmerizing bosses in the original Dark Souls game. With its delicate and large wings glowing with an eerie green and a blue undertone, the boss floats silently above the player, launching deadly waves of magic from a distance.

The wings also help in visualizing just how large the Dark Souls boss really is, which is one of the few points of comparison that make it similar to the ultimate alien (called Jean Jacket) from Nope, a 2022 horror sci-fi movie. Jean Jacket, the alien monster showcased in the 2022 film, was first portrayed as a mysterious flying saucer. The creature is eventually revealed to be an alien lifeform itself, more like a silent predator that floats high above before striking down on its prey.

The monster from the movie has a design that many would be able to recall from the Dark Souls video game, and opens up like a large curtain and covers the sky with its flaps, showcasing something cosmic. Thanks to having a similar design philosophy, players are now remembering the Moonlight Butterfly that Hidetaka Miyazaki so masterfully created back in the day.
