Stellar Blade Devs on PC Version Region Lock Issue: “We’re Closely Discussing…

Stellar Blade is finally coming to PC on June 11, and you can enjoy it! If you’re living in the regions where it’s available. Looks like PlayStation didn’t learn their lesson after their massive blunder with Helldivers 2. Not only that, even Denuvo has also been implemented in the game, which makes it all the worse.

However, there is a small misunderstanding that needs to be cleared. The region lock issue wasn’t supposed to happen. The PlayStation Network linking was completely optional, and developers are confused as well. As of now, they are working to “fix” the issue so that everyone can enjoy.

Stellar Blade is set to be released on PC, but at what cost?

Stellar Blade has been largely anticipated on PC, however, gamers are left with a sour taste in their mouth. From the looks of it, Sony might have acted up on their reflexes and “mistakenly” region locked the game. How badly do you want to implement PSN on a supreme platform like PC?

Shift Up is currently in talks with Sony Interactive Entertainment to fix the regional lock issue. They even provided a statement to show their transparency on the matter. It will likely be fixed soon, so it’s only a matter of time.

Though Sony isn’t the star of the hate show here, it’s Denuvo. Gamers have a dedicated hate towards Denuvo as it “seemingly” reduces the performance. The developers of Stellar Blade assured that’s not the case as they’ve provided the benchmarks.

Mods will also work on the PC version of Stellar Blade, even if it is protected by Denuvo anti-tampering. Doesn’t make much sense, as Denuvo is all about anti-tampering. Some mods may not work as intended and create a lot of hassle. Fans aren’t as convinced either about having Denuvo on the game, and are outright threatening to not buy the game because of it.

Denuvo poses a huge problem for the sales of Stellar Blade on PC

PC players have every right to hate on Denuvo as it has a past of ruining things. Even though the developers stated it doesn’t have performance issues, there are other things to be concerned about. At the surface level, it may seem like an anti-******-flag measure, but it has its flaws.

I appreciate the transparency.

Easy win here would be to drop Denuvo. Even if you tuned it, people hate it with a passion.

There is no proof that denuvo increases sales when you have a great game already. Look at Expedition 33, which is selling like crazy without Denuvo on PC.…

First off, having Denuvo means players have to be constantly connected to the internet to play the game. There is no way to play the game offline, even though it is a single-player game. It also puts pressure on the CPU due to the encryption. The cherry on top, sometimes they are incompatible with older hardware.

Denuvo isn’t just a problem for the consumer side, but also on the creator side. It costs $0.5 per month for every Denuvo-protected game. In addition to that, it takes a $25,000 monthly fee to keep the service running. So developers have to pay a lot just to have their games protected.

Moreover, it is a controversial DRM that people hate, so having fewer sales for it means major harm to Shift Up. Due to additional requirements, PC players are getting skeptical about buying the game. For a community that prefers performance over everything, the addition of Denuvo means tampering with consumer demands.

While some may argue that Denuvo has nothing to do with sales, it’s actually not true. A huge percentage of PC gamers are against Denuvo for its restriction. It is not necessary, and it has been proven several times. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was released without Denuvo and sold more than two million copies. Gamers are ready to pay, just not so if Denuvo is involved.

Is it okay for you to buy games with Denuvo protection? Will Stellar Blade developers change the decision about using the anti-tampering service? Let us know in the comments below.
