Phantom Parade’ Even if It Was a Major Disappointment

Video game adaptations of popular anime and manga series are hardly as successful as the original versions, and this has been a concerning issue for the franchises. From One Piece to Naruto, every prominent anime series has suffered this fate, and now, the same has happened to Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen, one of the biggest names of recent times.

Jujutsu Kaisen received a mobile action RPG called Jujutsu Kaisen: Phantom Parade, which was developed by Sumzap, Inc. and published by TOHO Games. The game came out last year, and while it initially made a lot of noise, it eventually got tagged as another failed video game adaptation because of multiple aspects that ruined its overall appeal.

However, even though Jujutsu Kaisen: Phantom Parade failed as a game, fans of the series should experience it at least once. The reason behind this is the unique storylines that the video game features, which are not a part of the original story.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Phantom Parade was another failed video game attempt

For the past few years, the Jujutsu Kaisen story has been at an all-time high because of the ongoing developments within the series. Thus, the creators of the franchise decided to follow the most stereotypical path for any successful anime or manga. It also entered the video game field and released the action RPG game called Jujutsu Kaisen: Phantom Parade, specifically for mobile users.

While the game was initially announced in 2021, it was supposed to be released in 2022 but eventually got pushed to 2024. The game generated a lot of hype, especially because it received a special opening movie, which was animated by MAPPA. However, all the hype turned into disappointment as the game failed to live up to the expectations of Jujutsu Kaisen fans.

The game had a lot of inconsistencies in terms of content, gameplay, and gacha mechanics. While the animation of the game was great, other elements ruined the overall progression, and it didn’t feel thrilling enough. Thus, Jujutsu Kaisen: Phantom Parade also got added to the list of failed video game adaptations that hurt the fame of the original anime and manga series.

Fans should still give Jujutsu Kaisen: Phantom Parade a chance

As mentioned above, Jujutsu Kaisen: Phantom Parade was another failed video game adaptation, but fans should at least try it once. The reason behind this is the original content that is created specifically for the video game by the creators. The game might be based on the same premise as the original Jujutsu Kaisen story, but certain plots are new and totally unique, giving the video game an edge.

It also features some original characters like Saki Rindo, Kensuke Nagino, and Kaito Yuki, who are not a part of the original story. These characters are quite interesting and are developed within the same contrast as the characters from the source story. All these elements might feel a little different from the original Jujutsu Kaisen narrative, but their tone is quite similar to the dark themes of Gege Akutami’s masterpiece.

All in all, Jujutsu Kaisen: Phantom Parade might be a disappointing mobile action RPG game, but the original story and character developments make it worth it for fans who are craving some Jujutsu Kaisen content. It works as the perfect filler until the new season of Jujutsu Kaisen anime is released by MAPPA.

Jujutsu Kaisen is currently available to watch on Crunchyroll.
