Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is one of the most anticipated superhero games, which recently got delayed to early 2026. Not that it was unexpected, as the trend of delays has been common in the gaming industry recently. Ever since the Cyberpunk 2077 fiasco, developers have been critical about releasing a polished product.

Delaying is both a good and a bad thing for a game release. While asking for more time allows for polishing, it also sort of kills the hype to some extent. That is certainly not the case for Rockstar Games, but for others, it’s the harsh reality. However, fans don’t blame Skydance for the delay, instead, they are calling it the Amy Hennig curse.

Amy Hennig is the lead writer and producer of Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra. In the past, she was also the Creative Director and writer for the first three Uncharted games. Why not the fourth? That’s where the curse lies.

If you’ve played the first three Uncharted games, you know how good the stories are. So it’s logical to let Hennig take care of the fourth rendition. She indeed was, and had written a lot of it. However, all her work was scrapped as she left Naughty Dog after having “creative disagreements.”

After her departure, she joined EA to work on a Star Wars project codenamed “Rantag.” Alas, that didn’t see the light of day as it was later cancelled as Visceral Games was shut down by EA. It was supposed to be a large-scale heist game, with a linear playstyle. Hennig was the perfect choice, but it didn’t last long.

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra was supposed to release in late 2025, however, Skydance recently announced a delay. According to the developers, the game will be released in early 2026 to deliver a polished game. However, fans fear that it might get cancelled, as there’s no gameplay showcase.

Moreover, Amy Hennig has been unlucky for a long time, thus, fans think it’s a curse. Hope it’s not true, as she deserves to showcase another successful project.

Due to this constant pattern of Amy Hennig being part of troubled projects, people fear that it will be cancelled. Fans are waiting to see the next masterpiece, as it’s been a long time. Moreover, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is a unique project that takes Marvel fans to a different timeline.

The likelihood of the project being cancelled is low, as Skydance Interactive has taken charge of it. They have created all the projects they’ve promised. Furthermore, they are well-funded. So that fear shouldn’t be there. If the gameplay is good enough, this game will fly.

in 2015 regarding his experience at Naughty Dog. This is what he said about his resignation:

I liked it… they… ummm… they fired… ummm… [lets out a massive sigh] I left, I quit! [laughs] So, I didn’t like it. I mean, I left because they decided to go a different way with it, and so when they did that, when they changed leadership.

It is referring to the time when Neil Druckmann was made the Creative Director for Uncharted after Amy Hennig left. Following Hennig, a lot of people left, like director Justin Richmon, lead character artist Michael Knowland, and art director Nate Wells.

It is still suspected that some internal politics have caused these people to leave. There is no evidence regarding it. But all these are talented people. It’s not likely they’d leave the project midway. It is highly possible that people didn’t like Druckmann’s lead as he brought a lot of changes.

Amy is still a very, very dear friend of mine, and she’s brilliant. But the Last of Us guys were the next team there, so they took over. They just wanted their own flavor. They got rid of some of the other people that were involved and just redid their thing. 

Nolan specified that he didn’t know what caused a clash and was saddened by Amy Hennig’s departure. Moreover, he also said that the new management also “got rid” of people who were involved and replaced their work.

Nolan North also had some issues with the changed script, as he was part of the game franchise the longest. In his words,” the tone was slightly different,” compared to the original storyline. He was understanding about it and kept it to himself.

Neil Druckmann is now the studio head of Naughty Dog, his changes eventually worked then. It’s about time Amy Hennigs gets her showcase with the release of Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra.
