’s ambitious adaptation of the iconic Xbox franchise is now moving forward with a major name in the director’s chair.

David Leitch, director of The Fall Guy and Bullet Train, is in negotiations to helm the project. Not only that, we’re also getting a spectacular writer, and The Coalition, developers of the games, will also be involved. We’ve waited a long time for this, and all the pieces have finally come together.

The Gears of War movie isn’t just a rumor or a possibility anymore

David Leitch may not have officially signed on yet, but all indications point toward him taking the director’s chair. A former stuntman and co-director of John Wick, Leitch has become known for slick, choreographed action in his movies. Given his style of filmmaking, His involvement aligns perfectly with the gritty, boots-on-the-ground military action that defines Gears of War. His wife and producing partner, Kelly McCormick, is also on board, with the couple set to produce through their 87North banner. Of course, as you’d expect, the project will also be worked on alongside The Coalition, the studio behind the games.

The script is being written by Jon Spaihts, whose writing credits include Doctor Strange and Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Dune. Known for his work on large-scale science fiction epics, Spaihts brings the kind of narrative weight needed to do justice to Gears of War’s lore.
