Bethesda on partnering with external studios

Bethesda figurehead Todd Howard has expressed that the Maryland-based studio isn’t opposed to partnering with external studios  on future games. This is largely in order to find ways to “increase output.”

On the heels of the Fallout TV show’s premiere, Howard talked with Kinda Funny Games (via

“I would say we’ve always had those conversations. We did a lot of things for the show. It might seem like there isn’t a big new game out, but we added content into 76 for the show. 76 has a really great map expansion that’s coming this summer with Skyline Valley.”

Partnering with third-party developers would help get things out of the door faster, especially while the next numbered game is in development. While it’s clear that the studio didn’t care for working with Obsidian Entertainment on New Vegas, even rejecting ideas for more games based on the IP as well as the Elder Scrolls series.

Skyline Valley is the upcoming DLC for Fallout 76, which brings players a brand-new region to explore. While many feel 76 is better now, it’ll still always have that Bethesda jank that doesn’t jell with multiplayer-focused games.
