So he is organising a Clean-up Country event and he wants other Kununurra residents to get involved. Mr Griffiths-Sebastian has conducted to a few clean up country events over recent years and he thinks it is time for another one. “It’s something that I’m very committed to doing. I run cultural tours and last thing I want is to take my guests out to Ivanhoe Crossing or somewhere and see rubbish everywhere,” he said. Also Kelly’s Knob, Speargrass Road, around town, the oval, pretty much everywhere that people see fit to throw rubbish,” he said. “You see a lot of alcohol, beer cans, even dead fish left on the site when people fillet or scale they tend to just leave it there and not worry about cleaning it up. It doesn’t take much to put it in a plastic bag and put it in a bin,” he said. “It is really important to do, especially at the beginning of the dry because of the reflection of some metal from the sun will go straight into the dry grass, and that’s the last thing I want is for a major bushfire to impact Kununurra.” People interested in getting involved are invited to the Kimberley Cafe at 9am on Thursday where they can discuss when to hold the clean up country event. “I just want to bring people together and find out when is the best time to do it,” he said.
