Nintendo Lawsuit Removed an Exciting Feature From Palworld but It’s Back Now Thanks to a Fan

The survival crafting community watched in dismay last week as Pocketpair announced yet another feature casualty in its ongoing legal battle with Nintendo. This time, the victim was one of Palworld’s most beloved mechanics—using your Pals as living gliders. But where there’s a will, there’s a way.

Fans were devastated when Patch v0.5.5 dropped on May 8, forcing players to use boring old glider items instead of soaring through the skies while hanging from their favorite creatures. The change came directly from Nintendo’s relentless patent warfare, but one fan wasn’t about to take this lying down.

How Nintendo forced Palworld to clip its wings

The patent infringement lawsuit against Pocketpair has been steadily chipping away at Palworld‘s unique features since it was filed last September. The Japanese gaming giant isn’t just protecting Pokémon’s visual style—they’re weaponizing patents on basic gameplay mechanics.

Last November, Pocketpair had to remove the ability to summon Pals by throwing Pal Spheres (similar to Poké ******), changing it to a static summon beside the player. Now, the latest casualty is the ability to use creatures like Galeclaw and Celaray as living gliders. Instead, players must equip a standard glider item from their inventory.

“We have had to make certain compromises in order to avoid disruptions to the development and distribution of Palworld,” Pocketpair admitted in their

While Pals will still provide passive buffs to gliding, it’s a poor substitute for the thrill of hanging from your Galeclaw’s claws as you soar across the map at breakneck speed. For many players, this change felt like having their wings clipped—literally.

Modders to the rescue: bringing back what Nintendo took away

Just two days after Pocketpair‘s forced update, however, modder Primarinabee uploaded “Glider Restoration” to

with a cheeky description: “Palworld Patch 0.5.5? What? That didn’t happen!”

The mod cleverly restores the removed feature without requiring players to roll back their game version or miss future updates. “For those of you who love flying with your pals, this mod uses sleight of hand to reverse the sleight-of-hand ‘removal’ of gliding pals,” Primarinabee explains.

There’s a small catch—you still need a glider in your inventory—but the mod restores the visual and mechanical joy of soaring with your Pals rather than using a boring parachute. Within just three days of release, the mod has already been downloaded over 700 times, showing just how much players missed this feature.

Of course, console players are left out in the cold, forced to use standard gliders while their PC counterparts enjoy the restored feature. It’s yet another example of how Nintendo’s aggressive patent enforcement hurts players more than it protects innovation.

What do you think about this latest lawsuit development? Is it protecting innovation or stifling creativity? And have you tried the Glider Restoration mod yet? Let us know in the comments!
