Anthony Albanese has officially been sworn in for his second term as prime minister.

He and his new ministry are being sworn in at Government House in Canberra on Tuesday morning, in a ceremony conducted by Governor-General Sam Mostyn.

The Prime Minister took his affirmation of office before Ms Mostyn, with fiancee Jodie Haydon and son Nathan watching on.

Technically, Mr Albanese had to resign before he could be sworn in for his second term.

Members of the new ministry have started to file into the ceremony, many wearing red.

Mr Albanese unveiled his new ministry picks on Monday, announcing that Labor had the largest “caucus in history since federation”.

The party has already claimed up to 92 seats, and are expecting more in Western Australia and Victoria, he told reporters.

The new government will see a reshuffle across much of the ministry, elevating backbenchers, vaulting an assistant minister and the dumping of two cabinet ministers.
