Hardest Dark Souls 3 Boss With the Coldest Dialogues Needs to be in Elden Ring Nightreign

In the dark world of Dark Souls 3, no boss has ever etched itself deeper into the souls of some players than Slave Knight Gael. And it is not just because it is one of the hardest bosses Hidetaka Miyazaki has ever created, but also because of his lore backdrop, which is showcased perfectly through some of the coldest dialogues ever.

Moreover, seeing how a few iconic bosses from the world of Dark Souls are making their way back to relevancy thanks to Elden Ring Nightreign, I believe it’s only fair we get to see Slave Knight Gael too, alongside the already teased horror of The Nameless King that the players will have to battle at the end of the game.

This one Dark Souls 3 boss deserves a spot in Elden Ring Nightreign

Slave Knight Gael isn’t your typical endgame boss. He was introduced quietly in The Ringed City DLC as a loyal servant seeking the “blood of the dark soul as pigment for the Painted World.

Not only is Gael one of the hardest bosses found in Dark Souls 3, but he is essentially one of the few bosses throughout the trilogy who bring such a balance of gameplay and narrative significance at once. The boss fight against him is a brutal one, as players have to stand against three phases of hardship before they finally get rid of him.

What’s even better is that he can be summoned as an NPC and help in a few fights throughout the game, including the second phase of Sister Freide’s boss fight. Players also struggle a lot in their own boss fight, as the damage Gael deals is enough to make a light-tempered player break a controller or two.

The best part of all of this is the boss’s dialogue throughout the player’s interactions. Throughout the fight, he makes you feel that you are not battling a villain but someone who’s lost everything and is still standing. This brings us to Elden Ring Nightreign. With its shadowy themes and a focus on forgotten legends rising again, this is the perfect chance to revive Gael once again.

Slave Knight Gael in Elden Ring Nightreign: A perfect fit

Elden Ring Nightreign make a perfect fit for the boss | FromSoftware

Given that he is a boss from Dark Souls 3, Slave Knight Gael doesn’t need to be an enemy that simply gets copy-pasted from his game of origin. Instead, he deserves a proper comeback with revised mechanics and a new batch of lore that will keep his legacy alive, coming over from the 2016 title.

Despite being a perfect fit for Elden Ring Nightreign, the unfortunate news is that there seems to be no presence of the iconic Dark Souls 3 boss in the upcoming game. And as we inch closer to the slated release date of 30th May, it starts to seem more like a missed opportunity.

The last ray of hope seems to be a pre-teased DLC for Nightreign, which got revealed with the game’s collector’s edition pack. Along with more content and Nightfarers, FromSoftware would definitely be looking forward to introducing more Nightlords, and no one seems a better fit than Slave Knight Gael for now.

Elden Ring Nightreign will be officially released on 30th May, 2025, and available on PC, Xbox One/Series S/Series X, and PlayStation 4/5.
