A live-action Dead Space movie based on the video game series of the same name is reportedly in the works. James Wan, the mastermind behind popular horror films like The Conjuring, Insidious, and Malignant, is helming the project.

James Wan is no stranger to horror, so there’s no doubt that he’ll do justice to the terrifying and grotesque atmosphere of Dead Space. But there is someone who could’ve been a better choice for directing the live-action Dead Space movie, and guess what? He’s a massive fan of the series and has played the remake, too.

, after being asked about potentially directing a Dead Space movie, Carpenter let it slip that a Dead Space movie is indeed in the works, but another director is doing it.

I’m a big video game fan, so I played all the [Dead Space] games. I was down looking at the new digital cameras, the RED, and happened to mention to them that I would love to do a “Dead Space” film. That just went around, and everybody said, “Oh, when are you gonna do it?” I’m not gonna do it. I think they already have another director involved. And they haven’t asked me to do it. So until someone asks me, I wouldn’t do it. But there’s a new version of the “Dead Space” video game coming out in January, and I’m there.

It’s infuriating to know that no one asked Carpenter to do it, considering how much of an influence The Thing was on Dead Space and how much of an absolute no-brainer move it would’ve been. But, the good news is that he did play the remake of the first Dead Space and expressed his enjoyment on X after it was initially released two years ago.
