One Aspect of Elden Ring Nightreign Boss Fights Is Already Being Called “Boring”

FromSoftware is known for crafting some of the most iconic boss fights the gaming world has ever seen, and fans expect no less from the studio in the upcoming Elden Ring Nightreign, which is scheduled to be released on May 30th, 2025.

However, even before the game is out, the gameplay has us wondering if one of the most important aspects of boss fights in the game, i.e., the battle arena, is going to be the same for every Nightlord in Elden Ring Nightreign. It is seemingly what is going to happen, which, according to some, will make the boss fights “boring.”

Elden Ring Nightreign might be boring in this one key aspect of boss fights

Bearing in mind how it makes use of the same assets we got to see in The Lands Between, one can say Nightreign’s more of an extension to 2022’s Elden Ring. While the design of the Nightlords in the game itself still promises intense and lore-rich battles, the arena seemingly becomes underwhelming for many.

Users on the game’s subreddit, including

, even made a post about the battle arenas of the Nightlords and how they can eventually become boring for the players, as every single one is “fought in a sprawling desert arena.

The core of the complaint is not just about how the fights will become visually monotonous, but also about how it takes away variation and environmental storytelling. In the previous title, Elden Ring, these arenas served a better purpose of blending the environments of a boss fight with its lore and backstory, making it a key part of any battle.

further speculated why this new approach to battle arenas could be the case. They stated how the desert could be a “staging ground for different dimensions,” essentially providing a lore backdrop as to how bosses from past games, like The Nameless King from Dark Souls 3, appear in Elden Ring Nightreign as the worst nightmare for players.

It can also be said that there is nothing particularly wrong with the concept of a deserted battleground, as it helps fit in the narrative themes of Elden Ring Nightreign. But again, the biggest is how it fails to provide any variety to the most important boss fight at the end of your 3-day survival campaign.

Hold on, there are still a few things different about Elden Ring Nightreign’s end-boss battle arenas

features similar battle arenas for every Nightlord | FromSoftware

While the battle arenas featured in the Nightlords’ boss fights might not exactly be what fans were expecting, FromSoftware should still be credited for trying something new and putting forward a concept never seen before much in the Souls games.

Furthermore, as

states further in the thread, the different Nightlords at the end of the campaign do bring with themselves different skyboxes and visual flairs. The user also couldn’t help but bring up how having a similar battle arena for every end boss will “mentally make you lock-in once you get there,” helping you become a pro in Elden Ring Nightreign.

While this is how we might get to see Elden Ring Nightreign for now, FromSoftware can practically bring more changes in the future, changing the arenas for different bosses as suited. The game, which is not even out yet, is already scheduled to have a DLC release as well, which was teased thanks to the contents of its Collector’s Edition Pack.

Seeing how FromSoftware likes to be expansive with their extensions, the future DLC could potentially bring more Nightfarers and more Nightlords with their own special battle arenas that could help tell more about their backstory.
