Having Digital Rights Management, like Denuvo, has been the norm in the gaming industry for a long time. Moreover, it has stopped ****** flag holders from getting their hands on things that they don’t deserve.

Konami fans have been at war, as they are divided over whether Silent Hill 2 Remake deserves to have DRM or not. This is a controversial matter, as Denuvo does hamper performance considerably, and the game is not the best-optimized title out there, even without it. Which is why many have been against the proposal.

Some may say Silent Hill 2 was released on Steam without a DRM, so what’s new about it? Actually no, it did have a Steam DRM wrapper, which is not so advanced as Denuvo, but still is something. So technically, the game did have one, which many didn’t know of. Interesting right?

Silent Hill 2 Remake won’t run on one’s PC if they are not connected to the internet to verify the copy. Surprisingly, gamers didn’t have any problem with that. Rather specifically, gamers have time and time again voiced their views against Denuvo DRM, despite it being a more secure option for publishers.

Now that the doubt has been cleared, let’s talk about the SH2R copy available on GOG. According to them, they have released the horror title on their platform without any DRM. If players buy on their platform, they’ll get the full game and run without additional checks.

What does that mean? Unlike Steam, which requires an online check to verify the copy, GOG won’t do that. Just double-click on the game, and you’re good to go. Just like old times, yeah? All in all, the copy available on GOG is just another DRM-free alternative that gamers can opt-in for.

It is likely that the anti-DRM folks were included too. But now that a DRM-free version has been released, it’s likely it will see more purchases via GOG. So maybe it was a good move for Konami to make it available on the platform.

Fans wished for the availability of the original Silent Hill 2 instead of remake

Even though Konami has made one of the finest remakes of their original title. Fans are still stuck with the nostalgia of the classic gameplay, instead of a modern makeover.

The original Silent Hill games are now considered abandonware, as there’s no way to access them. Fans initially got excited that Silent Hill 2 was available on GOG, thinking it was the original. Of course, everyone would want to keep classics in their collections. That’s the collector’s way, right?

Alternatively, some fans purchased it immediately despite it being the remake. Who’d want to miss out on a *****, right? Moreover, the GOG copy doesn’t have any DRM, so players will be keeping it forever. Even play the game even if it turns into abandonware.
