Wrong-way driver causes ****** that closes I-10 outside Las Cruces

) — A wrong-way driver on Interstate 10 outside of Las Cruces caused a ****** and injured a person early Sunday morning, May 4, New Mexico State Police said.

At about 6:30 a.m., State Police said they responded to a two-vehicle ****** along I-10 East at miler maker 151 that was caused by a wrong-way driver, State Police said. The ****** happened about five or six miles east of Las Cruces.

State Police said 20-year-old Isaiah Lopez was driving westbound in eastbound lanes when he struck another car head-on.

Lopez was arrested for DWI and booked into Dona Ana County Detention Center, State Police said.

A female, no age given, in the other car was transported to an area hospital with unknown injuries, State Police said.

The ****** closed Interstate 10 eastbound at mile post 148, about 3 miles east of Las Cruces, for about five hours. The highway has now been re-opened and all detours have been removed, the New Mexico Transportation Department said.
