Lady Gaga concert comb plot: Police in Brazil foil plan, singer not made aware until after performance

A bomb plot at a free Lady Gaga concert in Brazil has been foiled, with police making multiple arrests before the world’s biggest ever concert.

Gaga took to Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday night, performing to a record 2.1 million people, reportedly unaware of the plan for mass carnage of death.

The Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro state, working in coordination with the Justice Ministry, said the plot was orchestrated by a group promoting hate speech and the radicalisation of teenagers.

According to the Rio city hall, 2.1 million people attended the concert of the American pop icon on Saturday.

“The suspects were recruiting participants, including minors, to carry out coordinated attacks using improvised explosives and Molotov cocktails,” the police said in a statement on Sunday.

“They were clearly saying that they were planning an attack at Lady Gaga’s concert motivated by ******* orientation.”

Lady Gaga’s team has now spoken out about the incident, claiming the singer or her team were not made aware of the incident before or during the show.

“Prior to and during the show, there were no known safety concerns, nor any communication from the police or authorities to Lady Gaga regarding any potential risks,” a spokesperson said.

“Her team worked closely with law enforcement throughout the planning and execution of the concert and all parties were confident in the safety measures in place.”

The Justice Ministry said the recruiters identified themselves as members of Gaga’s global fan base, known as the Little Monsters.

The operation was based on a report by the ministry’s cyber operations lab following a tip-off from Rio state police intelligence, which uncovered digital cells encouraging violent behaviour among teenagers using coded language and extremist symbolism.

A man described as the group’s leader was arrested in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul for ******** possession of a firearm, while a teenager in Rio de Janeiro was detained for storing child ************.

Authorities carried out over a dozen search and seizure warrants across the states of Rio de Janeiro, Mato Grosso, Rio Grande do Sul and Sao Paulo.
