Golden ticket proves elusive for Aussie surfer Robinson

*********** surfer Jack Robinson has sensationally bombed out of the Gold Coast Pro in the elimination round, just a week after winning at Bells Beach.

Robinson finished third in his first-round heat on Saturday, thrusting him into the dreaded elimination round on Sunday.

Up against fellow Australians Morgan Cibilic and Julian Wilson, Robinson could only muster a two-wave total of 7.06.

Wilson won the heat with a two-wave total of 15.27, with Cibilic (13.33) also doing enough to progress.

In the second elimination men’s heat of the day, Connor O’Leary and Barron Mamiya also progressed at the expense of *********** Jordan Lawler.

Robinson shot up to third spot on the world rankings after his success at Bells Beach, but his poor result on the Gold Coast is set to tumble him down the rankings.

The women’s elimination round also claimed a big name, with Brisa Hennessy failing to progress.

Lakey Peterson and Bella Kenworthy made it through ahead of Hennessy.

In the other women’s eliminator, Sawyer Lindblad and Luana Silva got through ahead of Nadia Erostarbe.
