Rockstar stated the main reason why it is taking so long in their official statement for the delay. They’ve considered fan excitement towards the game, and they feel happy about it. But they don’t want to let down fans after all this hype. They quoted this in the statement:

With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.

Initially, the plan was to release GTA 6 in Fall 2025, which is around October. Having it delayed by a few months isn’t that big of a deal. It is only for the benefit of the players and the company itself. Or is it about raising the game price to 80 USD, who knows?

It is wrong for fans to think Rockstar is only a Grand Theft Auto-making studio. Additionally, the development of the GTA sequel only began after the release of Red Dead Redemption 2. The grief from the delay has hit fans so hard that they have gotten into denial. Maybe the plan was to release the game in 2025, but even Dutch had a plan in Red Dead Redemption 2. People surely know how that ended.
