As part of a plea deal, Amaya on Wednesday, March 5, was sentenced to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to one count of ******* and two counts of injury to a child before Judge Sam Medrano of the 409th District Court, the DA’s Office said in a news release.

Remmy, who was having trouble breathing, was found with serious injuries and was transported to Del Sol Medical Center, where he died, police and prosecutors said. The toddler had injuries to his chest, back, face and forehead. The 1-year-old baby also had injuries to his face.

The toddler’s death was investigated by police detectives with the Crimes Against Persons Unit. An arrest warrant was later issued for Amaya.

On Sep. 6, 2018, detectives, with help of the U.S. Marshal’s Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, arrested Amaya at his home at the Sand Pebble apartments at 11280 Pebble Hills Blvd., El Paso Times archives stated.

As part of the plea agreement that sentenced Amaya to prison, he also waived any appeals related to his conviction, the DA’s office added.
