JoCo fire captain dies while fighting fire Saturday afternoon

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Johnson County Fire Protection District Captain is dead after fighting an active fire this afternoon, March 8.

JCFPD says that Captain Collett collapsed while fighting a natural cover fire. After nearly an hour of lifesaving efforts, JCFPD says that Collett was declared deceased.

Captain Collett spent 29 years in the JCFPD.
