New York state of emergency declared as brush fires erupt in

Three major brush fires have erupted on New York’s Long Island, with authorities racing to bring blazes under control.

“Suffolk County FRES’s is coordinating the response to three major brush fires on the East End, Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine wrote in a public service announcement.

“We are working with the town of Southampton closely and multiple police agencies.

“The National Guard is also involved in water drops that began some time ago. Sunrise Highway remains closed past exit 58.”

The fires erupted on Saturday local time, with smoke seen billowing into the sky.
