GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Demolition is underway of the former Christian Reformed Church of North America headquarters in Grand Rapids.

The property, located across the street from Meijer at the corner of 28th Street and Kalamazoo Avenue, was purchased by Meijer for $7.4 million in October, property records show.

Meijer also plans on developing the rest of the property. Conceptual plans show the possibility for commercial and residential development.

The CRC denomination made the decision to sell its former property in 2023, citing finances and a need for flexibility. It has since moved its headquarters to 300 East Beltline Ave. south of I-96, a building it bought from Cornerstone University.

The demolition process is expected to take about a month, a Meijer spokesperson told News 8.
