How to Increase Your Inventory Space in Sugardew Island

One of my initial gripes with Sugardew Island—with any cozy farming sim out there—is the lack of inventory space. In the early game, you’re battling with yourself to retain some control over how much and what you carry. You have enough room for a handful of seeds, tools, and perhaps some energy bars to keep you working smoothly all day. But what then? What happens when your backpack is full? Well, you’re kind of out of luck until you learn how to upgrade your inventory in Sugardew Island!

As always, especially in the early game, the answer is Tomte. Once you’ve accumulated enough money, which in this case means 2,500 Sugardew for the initial inventory upgrade in Sugardew Island. After that, expect to pay more. The second backpack upgrade sets you back 20,000 Sugardew—a tidy sum that’ll take you the better part of…well, a long time to accumulate.

Every inventory space upgrade in the game increases your total bag space by a single row. It’s a small amount, all things considered, but that additional space does add up and leaves you with plenty of room to collect crops, resources, and whatever else you find lying around the ground!

How to Afford the Inventory Space Expansion in Sugardew Island

As you start with a mere six slots in your backpack, you definitely want to prioritize a bag upgrade sooner rather than later. The first upgrade increases your space up to 12 slots, and the huge bag expansion brings the total up to 18 slots. Shoot for the latter!

To earn the money necessary:

  • Sell just about everything you can get your hands on, from materials like weeds and rocks to harvestable crops such as corn and cucumbers.
  • When investing in new crops to plant and nourish, opt for those that produce multiple harvests, such as corn, which you can gather numerous times before the plant dies.
  • While we recommend that you eventually buy fertilizer, start by focusing on vegetable seeds. They offer more bang for your buck in the beginning!
