Southbound I-75 reopens after 2 semi-trucks ******

NORTH PORT, Fla. (WFLA) — The southbound lanes of Interstate 75 in Sarasota County reopened overnight after officials said two tractor-trailers collided Wednesday afternoon, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

According to North Port Fire Rescue, two semis crashed at mile marker 174 southbound near the Kings Highway interchange. NPFR crews cleared the accident, but lanes on the interstate remain closed due to damage to the road.

The Florida Highway Patrol said a crane semi was in the outside lane approaching the overpass for Berkshire Street and slammed into a tractor-trailer that was hauling a flatbed trailer with its hazard lights on.

Both semis were on an uphill grade and had a clear line of sight while approaching the overpass. However, the tractor-trailer hauling the flatbed collided with the crane semi, which was traveling at a reduced speed.

The ****** caused the crane semi to rotate and flip on its side, blocking all of the southbound lanes.

After the collision between the semis, another vehicle collided with the ****** debris, FHP said. There are no life-threatening injuries at this time.

In a 9 p.m. update, the Florida Department of Transportation said one lane of traffic was reopened as crews continued to work overnight.

Officials said there were also roughly 60 gallons of mixed petroleum products, including hydraulic oil, diesel and gasoline spilled onto the roadway.
