Harmony Cobel returns home
In Severance Season 2 Episode 8 titled Sweet Vitriol, the entire episode is entirely focused on Harmony Cobel, also known as Mrs. Selvig throughout Severance season one, as she returns to her hometown. We're never given a name of the hometown, but it's a cold coastal town that looks incredibly similar to Newfoundland in Canada. Honestly, it very well could be Cold Harbour, which would open a whole other can of worms, so let's not get too tinfoil hat here.

There she meets up with what appears to be a previous love interest or at the very least childhood friend, and explains to him that she knows Lumon is watching over the town, so asks for his help. He agrees and helps her return to the house in which she grew up, where she claims to be looking for something.

She arrives at her home where her aunt, a devout—and honestly, crazy—follower of Kier. We're talking like full on religious cult levels of following. There, Cobel argues with her aunt about the passing of her mother, who Cobel says she didn't even get to see before she passed away. She argues with her aunt, in which we learn a lot about Harmony Cobel's childhood.

What we learned about Harmony Cobel in Severance Season 2 Episode 8
Well, we actually learned a lot about Ms. Cobel and how she came to be a part of Lumon. We learn that at the young age of 8, Cobel worked at an Ether factory, much like the one in which the original founder Kier Eagan worked in and where he met his wife Imogene.

After some time, around the age of 12, Cobel acquired a Wintertide Fellowship much like Ms. Huang who we were introduced to in Season 2 of Severance, and who has essentially replaced Cobel on the Severance floor of Lumon in Kier.

Also, a fun fact I want to point out about Wintertide. It's an anagram for Dieter Twin, which at a glance doesn't matter much, however, we learned a few episodes ago that Kier Eagan had a twin brother named Dieter. Nothing is coincidence in the world of Severance. Furthermore, Dieter Eagan itself is an anagram for AI Generated. Food for thought.

Severance Season 2 Episode 8 Sweet Vitriol ending explained
At the end of Severance Season 2 Episode 8, Harmony Cobel finds what she had been looking for the whole time. A diary of sketches, formulas, and designs that indicate that Ms. Cobel is actually the person who created Severance. That's right, Harmony Cobel is the person behind the creation of Severance including, according to her, the base code, the circuit blueprint, as well as the overtime contingency and Glasgow block protocols.

This revelation is of course massive, and explains why Ms. Cobel has such an interest in remaining on the Severance floor and knowing how things are going, despite Helena trying to promote her to a higher position at Lumon. It also adds some comic relief to the statement from Helena to Harmony that she shouldn't overstate her contributions to Lumon, seeing as, well, she is the creator of Severance, although Jame Eagan has been attempting to take credit for it.

In the final moment of the episode, Cobel answers a call from Mark's sister Devon Scout who asks for her help and explains to her that Mark is reintegrating. Cobel asks if it's at the hands of Reghabi, which Devon confirms. Cobel asks to speak to Mark and demands he "tells her everything."

It would appear that, although an unlikely duo, Harmony and Mark may be teaming up in the very near future to get some answers, or at least some revenge, on Lumon.
