Sony PlayStation website has just revealed a new system software update for the PS3, almost decades after the console was released. 

Surprisingly, the PS3 has received a software update when we are already two generations ahead with the PS5; however, the update has indeed arrived. PS3’s update 4.92 introduces improvements to system performance. Moreover, this update will be required to renew the Blu-ray player encryption key, so players not using the gaming console can still take advantage of the PlayStation 3 as a Blu-ray disc player.

also revealed how to update the PS3’s system software through the console itself or PC. Check out the steps for the two ways to update your system software on the PlayStation 3 below. 

PS3 Update Using the Internet

The traditional method is the first way to update to the latest system software. Players need to go to the Settings tab, visit the ‘System Update’ page, and then select ‘Update via Internet’. Once the update is downloaded, it can be installed by following the steps on the screen. 

Updating Using a Computer

• PlayStation 3 also offers an option to update the console through removable storage media from a computer. 
• Players should visit this website and download the latest updates. 
• Then, create a folder named “PS3” on a USB drive formatted as FAT32 and create another folder inside this folder with the title ‘UPDATE’. 
• Now download and save the new update as “PS3UPDAT.PUP” in the ‘UPDATE’ folder. 
• Once you have followed the above steps, connect the USB device to the PS3, visit the Settings page, click ‘System Update’, and then select ‘Update via Storage Media’.
