only recently arrived in Australia as an electric-only proposition, but the Stellantis-backed ******** electrification specialist is now launching a range-extender version from $45,900 drive-away.

That means the 2025 Leapmotor C10 REEV, in showrooms this month, undercuts the equivalent C10 EV by $1600.

It’s powered by a 158kW electric motor driving the front wheels hooked up to a 28.4kWh battery – less than half the capacity of the C10 EV’s 69.9kWh energy storage unit.

The headline act here is the 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine under the bonnet, that acts as a range extender rather than driving the vehicle.

Leapmotor quotes a combined driving range of up to 1150km on the more lenient NEDC test cycle, with fuel consumption and emissions rated at 0.9L/100km and 21g/km respectively.

“The Leapmotor C10 REEV operates primarily as an electric vehicle, with the electric motor driving the wheels. When the battery charge gets low, the internal combustion engine (ICE) ignites to generate electricity, recharging the battery and extending the driving range,” Leapmotor says in its media release.

Further to the on-board range extender, the C10 REEV retains its ability to be recharged via AC and DC charging methods, with the latter allowing for a 30-80 per cent charge in “approximately 18 minutes”.

While the *********** release doesn’t quote a charging capacity, the previous global announcement noted a 65kW charge rate.

The REEV’s lineup will effectively mirror that of the C10 EV, meaning Style and Design grades and a solid level of standard specification.

Further, the C10 REEV is covered by the Leapmotor Care package that applies from MY25 (REEV and EV) models onward.

This sees the new vehicle warranty reduced to six years/150,000km (from seven years/160,000km), but capped-price servicing and roadside assistance extended to eight years of coverage (from five).
