Monster Hunter Wilds patch to fix major story progression bug on March 4

Capcom will address a game-breaking Monster Hunter Wilds bug in a title update scheduled for release this Tuesday.

The bug in question, which can make forward progress in the story impossible, centres on a vital NPC not appearing where they’re supposed to in a number of instances.

“A patch addressing known progression blockers will deploy tomorrow morning,” Capcom said on Monday.

It will go live on all platforms at 12am PT / 3am ET / 8am GMT on March 4, “with fixes for issues with the Ingredient Center, Grill a Meal and story progression in Chapter 5-2 ‘A World Turned Upside Down’.”

Capcom previously said it was aware of an issue stopping some players from unlocking the Grill a Meal and Ingredient Center features, despite them having met the progress criteria following the game’s release last Friday for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Once the update is released, any online sessions will be discontinued and players will need to download it in order to continue playing online,

Monster Hunter Wilds has been well received by critics, earning scores of 90 (consoles) and 88 (PC) on review aggregation site Metacritic. VGC’s five-star Monster Hunter Wilds review called it “a victory lap for Capcom’s golden age”.

The game appears to be selling strongly too, based on early PC data. Over the weekend, it became only the eighth title in Steam’s history to surpass one million concurrent players. Its peak of 1,384,608 concurrent players is the fifth-highest in Steam history, bettering the likes of Elden Ring, Cyberpunk 2077 and Dota 2.

Capcom has confirmed that one of the key producers responsible for the Monster Hunter series, Ryozo Tsujimoto, is being promoted to oversee all of the company’s development divisions beginning in April.
