Strut your mutt

ZOAR − TuscParks will host Dog Days of Spring-Strut Your Mutt on the Towpath from 1 to 3 p.m. March 22 at the Canal Lands Park Trailhead, 8645 Dover-Zoar Road. Dog owners and their pooches can register at the picnic shelter before hitting the trail. Participants are encouraged to dressed like their pets. Door prizes will be given away.

Y director will take a pie in the face

DOVER − The Tuscarawas County YMCA will hold its second pie in the face fundraiser this Monday through Saturday.

Participants can vote for their favorite Y director by placing a donation in their collection jug at the Member Service Center throughout the week. The director whose jug has the most money at the end of the week will receive a pie in the face on Pi Day, March 14.

The money will go to the annual campaign, providing direct financial assistance to Tuscarawas County youth and families who would otherwise be unable to afford YMCA memberships, swim lessons, preschool, afterschool, day camp, youth sports, team participation, and more.

Volunteers needed for Run for Home

DOVER − The Run for Home Road Runners Club is looking for volunteers to help with the Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital Run for Home, April 5-6, which includes events ranging from a free kids’ run to a half marathon. The proceeds will help finance the construction of a new home in Dennison through Habitat for Humanity East Central Ohio.

The schedule on Saturday includes a one-mile fun run/walk, 5K race, and 10K race. Additional activities include a kids’ run, face painting and photo booth.

On Sunday, the half marathon and team relay will wind its way from Tuscora Park to Dover City and back to the finish line inside Woody Hayes Quaker Stadium. A $200 cash prize will go to the fastest male and female runners who break the course records.

TuscBDD’s breakfast and awards

NEW PHILADELPHIA − The TuscBDD Community Partners pancake breakfast will be held from 7:30 to 9 a.m. March 27, at Tuscora Park dinning hall. The Better Together Awards will be presented. To submit a nomination, email Kerri at *****@*****.tld.

The TuscBDD is asking residents to wear orange Monday for Inclusion Day and Wednesday for Tuscarawas County proclamation day. Orange is the official color of Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.

Free comedy show

NEWCOMERSTOWN − Little Theatre Original Productions will present the comedy show “A Showcase of Adequate Acting” at 7 p.m. March 15, at the Newcomerstown Middle School.

Steam Museum announces personnel changes

SUGARCREEK − The Age of Steam Roundhouse Museum has made personnel changes within the Jerry & Laura Jacobson Foundation. Bill Strawn and Barry Fogle have retired from their positions on the board of directors.

Pete Poremba stepped down from his position as executive director in January and assumed the role of board chairman, which was vacated by Strawn’s retirement. Assistant Director Nathan Vance has become executive director and now manages the day-to-day operations of the foundation.

Denny Varian joins the board as a new member, filling the seat left open by Fogle’s retirement. Varian retires from his current position as facility manager at the Roundhouse to be eligible for his new role as a board member.

Comedy show in Sugarcreek

SUGARCREEK − Comedian Yakov Smirnoff will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Ohio Star Theater.

Smirnoff has his own theater in Branson, Missouri, and travels the world during standup comedy. He has appeared on “The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson” and on “Night Court,” and had appeared in movies. In 2016 and 2017 his TV special “Happily Ever Laughter” was voted the Best Special on PBS.

Celtic Rush at Dover library March 9

DOVER − Celtic Rush, a traditional Irish band from Northeast Ohio, will perform at 2 p.m. March 9, at the Dover Public Library. The group performs with a variety of instruments including fiddle, guitars, tin whistle, upright bass, mandolin, and Irish drum.

Civil War Round Table to meet

DOVER − The Tuscarawas Valley Civil War Round Table will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, at the Dover Public Library.

Jon-Erik Gilot will give a presentation examining the June 3, 1861, Battle of Philippi, (West) Virginia, the first significant land battle of the Civil War and the opening stages of George B. McClellan’s Western Virginia campaign.

Dino Dig at library Saturday

DOVER − The fifth annual Dino Dig will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, at the Dover Library, for children of all ages with an emphasis on children 2 to 12. The first 100 children will receive dino goody bags.

Swiss steak dinner is Saturday

SHERRODSVILLE − Sherrodsville Calvary Church will hold a drive-thru Swiss steak dinner from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday. The meal consists of Swiss steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, cole slaw or applesauce, rolls and assorted cakes and pies for a free will donation. No utensils or drinks are included.
