Mexico City’s Office of Citizen Safety officers responded to a report of an unconscious person in an apartment in the Centro neighborhood, in the municipality of Cuauhtémoc, authorities said Tuesday.

Officers interviewed a 61-year-old woman who said the pair, who had “virtual credentials” saying they were from Texas, had rented one of the apartments in the building, police said.

She knocked on their door multiple times to notify them of a repair for a leak in the water meter, but received no response. Eventually she decided to let herself into the apartment and upon entering, she found them unconscious and called police.

A family member raising funds for their ******** expenses said the siblings died due to carbon monoxide intoxication.

An Airbnb spokesperson said in a statement that the pair’s deaths were a “terrible tragedy,” and extended the company’s thoughts to their loved ones.
