Monster Hunter Wilds locks character editing behind microtransactions

Monster Hunter Wilds hides the ability to change the physical features of your character and your Palico behind microtransactions.

Monster Hunter Wilds was released today on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Now, Capcom has also released a way to edit the physical features of your Monster Hunter character, however, this option is locked behind a microtransaction.

The Monster Hutner Wilds – Character Edit Voucher: Three-Voucher Pack is available now on digital storefronts for around $6. This gives players the option to change the physical appearance of characters, essentially re-doing the character creation process.

Without this item, you can still edit the hair, eyebrow color, facial color, makeup, and clothing of your character, but if you want larger changes, you have to purchase this item.

The same is true for your companion, the Palico. You can purchase three vouchers to edit your Palico for around $6 or a voucher that will allow you to edit both your character and your Palico three times for around $10.

Currently, Capcom is offering one free token to re-do both your character and your Palico, but after this, players will have to pay every time they want to change the physical appearance of their hunter.

These options, along with the other microtransaction offerings made available for Monster Hunter Wilds were not available during the review *******.

Monster Hunter has gotten off to a huge start since its release. The game, which has received praise from fans outside of the performance issues, smashed through 1 million concurrent Steam players on launch night.

However, performance issues have plagued the game’s debut, leading Capcom to respond.

VGC’s five-star Monster Hunter Wilds review, which was played on PS5 Pro, calls it “a victory lap for Capcom’s golden age”, concluding: “Monster Hunter Wilds is confident, bold, and one of the best Monster Hunter games ever, thanks to its ability to stand on the giant shoulders of Worlds and improve it in virtually every way.”
