How to use Environmental traps in Monster Hunter Wilds

The name "Environmental" makes it pretty clear as to how these traps work. They don't have to be set, and all you have to do is approach them and interact with the button to activate them. You can do the same task from a distance by using your Slinger Hook.





Just like Consumable traps, Environmental traps are activated when a monster is in its radius. However, these traps are harder to activate as you can't set them beforehand.

Trap

Effect

Shock

Electrify a monster and temporarily incapacitate them

Pitfall

Pin down a monster and push its body partially under the ground. The head and the upper part of the body will be exposed for you to damage it

Falling Boulders

Drop down a barrage of boulders that knocks down the monsters and deal damage. It exposes the monster and allows you do a lot of powerful combos.

Sharp Crystal Pillars

Works in the same fashion as Falling Boulders, but has a larger area of effect.

Vine Traps

The traps will be set after you interact with it, and the vines will lure the monsters into it. Once the monster is stuck, you can land some powerful blows on it.

Quicksand

This trap is unique to Balahara. When activated, both monsters and hunters can get dragged inside it, so be careful.

Great Thunderbugs

Has a similar effect as Shock Traps as they incapacitate the monsters.

Paratoads

While the effect of Paratoads is identical to Great Thunderbugs, they can also incapacitate hunters. Hence, it's best to stay away and use your Slinger Hook.

Flashflies

They will knock down flying monsters and blind grounded monsters.

is not necessary, but they can be extremely useful in certain situations. For example, some traps can expose ******* monsters, allowing you to land combos and deal a lot of damage in a short time.
