Officers found James Albert McCoy Jr., 62, who was riding his e-bike in a designated bike lane on his way to pick up his daughters from school, fatally injured in the ******. Jesus Robles Jr., 49, was driving an unregistered ****** 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe northbound on Jones Boulevard when he hit McCoy Jr. from behind, police said. A witness traveling in a Tesla equipped with cameras captured footage of the ******, police said. The video showed McCoy was projected through the air upon impact. His e-bike was propelled 175 feet north before landing on its side, police said. McCoy was taken to a nearby hospital, where, despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced deceased. A family friend, Melanie Angeles, told 8 News Now that McCoy had two daughters who are in kindergarten and third grade. Authorities said Robles cooperated with police but showed signs of impairment, including slurred speech and a moderate odor of unknown alcohol on his breath. Officers arrested Robles and booked him into the Clark County Detention Center. He faces multiple charges, including DUI resulting in death, reckless driving, failure to maintain a travel lane, operating an unregistered vehicle, and failure to provide proof of insurance, according to court records.
