The heavy rainfall caused hazardous flooding in areas of the Columbia River Gorge, including the pedestrian path at Multnomah Falls and the Eagle Creek Trailhead. The storm also affected traffic on the Washington side of the gorge. A rockslide occurred on Highway 14, just east of the Lyle Tunnels at 3:40 p.m. Saturday. Crews were able to clear the slide. However, more roadway hazards are expected.

“Much more rocks are expected to fall throughout our road systems with heavy rain,” the Lyle Fire & Rescue District shared on social media.

Dylan Rivera with the Portland Bureau of Transportation said Northwest Portland and parts of Southwest Portland are “very prone” to landslides.

“We’re working on, you know, for the last 24 hours, we have work to try to mitigate the risk that additional slides occur at those locations,” Rivera said.
