High school student dies in Northern California car ******, passenger hospitalized

(FOX40.COM) — A high school student is dead after he crashed a car into a tree on Sunday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Car theft suspect ejected from vehicle during Northern California police chase

The tree impaled the teen driver and he was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to CHP. His identity has not been released, however, Lodi High School issued a statement on Monday about the death of one of its students.

“It is with profound sadness that we inform you of the tragic loss of one of our students who passed away yesterday,” LHS said. “Our hearts go out to the family and friends affected by this loss. We know this will create a deep void in the lives of many.”

The passenger reportedly suffered lacerations and was also taken to a local hospital in an unknown condition. Police do not suspect drugs or alcohol were a factor in the ****** and the incident remains under investigation.
