‘I’m embarrassed’: Hudson Young and Morgan Smithies apologise for scuffle at Las Vegas hotel

Raiders star Hudson Young says he “feels awful” for his role in a scuffle with teammate Morgan Smithies at their hotel in Las Vegas.

The pair fronted the media on Tuesday morning (AEDT) and apologised for their actions, with Smithies sporting a ****** eye that came from the training field and not from last week’s incident at Resorts World.

It’s been reported that the international stars traded blows in the hotel elevator after one of the players tried to share a room with the other following a check-in blunder that left him without a bed for the night.

An inflatable baseball bat was used and that’s what reportedly alarmed security who evicted them from the hotel.

“I’m embarrassed for myself, our teammates and the NRL,” Young said.

“We came back after a night out on Thursday and there was an issue with the room.

“We’re not going to go into details of that.

“There was a scuffle in the elevator, nothing in the hallways.

“We came back as a team and one of the boys had got a toy baseball bat somewhere.

“That was mistaken as a weapon in the elevator but it played no role.

“Security didn’t break anything up … We went downstairs to sort our room out and that’s when they’ve reviewed the footage and asked us to leave.”

Both players will be available for selection for Sunday’s game, with possible sanctions to be considered when they return to Canberra next week.

Young stressed that he and Smithies remained good friends, with their partners holidaying together in America.

“I want to apologise for the actions on Thursday night. It wasn’t good enough,” he said.

“The NRL invests so much time and effort into this game. It’s such a great space to be a part of here in Vegas and a great spectacle.

“Things got a bit out of hand on Thursday night. I’m happy to move on.

“We’ve dealt with it internally as a club. Sticky’s (coach Ricky Stuart) been on the front foot.

“Everything has been dealt with.”
