Ubisoft calls Assassin’s Creed Shadows street date break ‘unfortunate’ and warns patch is missing

Ubisoft has said it’s aware that a significant number of people have been able to obtain Assassin’s Creed Shadows nearly a month ahead of its release, and claimed that any footage being shared online is not representative of the launch game.

On Tuesday, there were reports of multiple copies of the new Assassin’s Creed game being sold on auction sites, weeks ahead of the game’s official March 20 release date. At the time of publishing, multiple users were streaming the game online.

In a statement, Ubisoft called the leaks “unfortunate”, and claimed that it was still planning a launch patch that isn’t present in the versions of Shadow being played by members of the public.

“We are aware players have accessed Assassin’s Creed Shadows ahead of its official release,” it said. “The development team is still working on patches to prepare the experience for launch and any footage shared online does not represent the final quality of the game.

“Leaks are unfortunate and can diminish the excitement for players. We kindly ask you not to spoil the experience for others. Thank you to our community for already taking steps to protect everyone from spoilers.

“Stay in the shadows, avoid the spoilers, and keep an eye on our channel for more official surprises in the coming weeks! March 20 will be here soon!”

Details of the game were leaked earlier this month, when scans of an upcoming Assassins’s Creed Shadows art book were uploaded to a hentai website.

Information about the first Assassin’s Creed Shadows expansion also leaked recently via an update to the game’s Steam product page. Titled Claws of Awaji, the DLC will reportedly introduce a new explorable area, a new weapon type and over 10 hours of additional content.

Following a hands-on session with the game last month, VGC wrote: “If its narrative is smartly weaved through the larger package, Assassin’s Creed Shadows could prove to be a notable release for both fans of Valhalla and Odyssey’s country-sized sandbox, and those craving a more cinematic Samurai story.”
