More woe for Rabbitohs as Dodd faces ban for high shot

South Sydney’s woes continue to mount ahead of the NRL season with import halfback Lewis Dodd facing suspension for a high tackle.

Already struggling to find his groove with his new side, Dodd faces a ban of one to two matches for his shot on St George-Illawarra’s four-try star Sione Finau after being charged by the match review committee on Sunday.

Dodd did not return after halftime as the injury-hit Rabbitohs were thumped 46-26 in Saturday’s Charity Shield clash in Mudgee and he was retrospectively sin-binned by the bunker – an initiative being trialled during the pre-season challenge.

The Englishman was already under pressure for the No.7 jersey after Jamie Humphreys excelled at halfback in the second stanza, scoring a try and registering and two try assists to make a compelling case to partner Cody Walker.

Dodd now faces being banned for South Sydney’s opening-round clash with coach Wayne Bennett’s former club the Dolphins at Suncorp Stadium on March 6 unless he can successfully contest the charge.

South Sydney were already reeling from news earlier in the week of long-term injuries for captain Cameron Murray and star fullback Latrell Mitchell.

Bulldogs forward Josh Curran is also facing a 1-2 match match after being charged with a careless high tackle on Jack Gosiewski in his team’s 30-14 trial loss to Brisbane on Saturday.
