The UP Warriorz star had endured a pretty poor start to the WPL by her fizzing standards, but all that changed on Saturday as she finished off the Delhi Capitals innings with three wickets in three ****** to seal their 33-run win in Bengaluru. “I think I manifested this,” Harris beamed afterwards. “I was joking when I was asked what my plans would be in the bowlers’ meeting and I said I would do this and that, and would get a hat-trick. “We have these casual meetings, but they all started laughing when I got it. “Now I am going to manifest something with the bat because I am a batting allrounder, but my bowling has been better than my batting of late.” The match was effectively already done and dusted at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium when Harris came on to bowl her third over, the 20th and last of Delhi’s innings. First ball, she got rid of Niki Prasad with a short one that the teenager hit straight to Chinelle Henry at deep midwicket, then she couldn’t help laughing as Arundhati Reddya hit her next delivery, a rubbishy full-toss, straight to cover. Next delivery, Minnu Mani struck the ball straight back to her and though Harris nearly spilled it, she managed to hold on, after a little juggle, to end the match with a piece of history. She’s only the third player in WPL annals to achieve a hat-trick, following Issy Wong in 2023’s inaugural edition and Deepti Sharma last year. Harris, who finished with figures of 4-15, had earlier dismissed *********** ace Annabel Sutherland, a key wicket as Meg Lanning’s Delhi never got to grips with having to chase down 9-177 from the Warriorz, eventually succumbing for 144. Lanning, the WPL’s all-time leading run-scorer, was dismissed for just five, the same score as her compatriots and teammates Sutherland and Jess Jonassen. Lanning had earlier put the Warriorz in to bat, and it had looked a good decision as they slumped to 6-89 in the 14th over, with Harris contributing just two off eight ******. But a useful 24 off 23 ****** from another Aussie, Tahlia McGrath, was followed up by an explosive contribution at No.8 from Jamaican big-hitter Henry, who blasted 62 off just 23 ******, with eight sixes. Spinner Jonassen was her usual impressive self with the ball, taking 4-31 off her four overs.
