Around 4:08 on Monday, ECSO responded to a call requesting a search for a missing backcountry skier around Powderhouse Peak near Luther Pass. The missing skier’s vehicle was located in a parking area. The El Dorado County Sheriff Coroner Division identified the skier as Frederic Dross, 46, of South Lake Tahoe. Two people hurt in Tahoe avalanche, serious injuries ECSO said he was found dead a short time later by friends in an avalanche area. Due to the dangerous snow conditions, deputies said the recovery of his body was postponed until early Tuesday. Video Above: Avalanche Safety Tips Starting at 6:00am, ECSO said a joint recovery and extraction operation was initiated. “The unstable snow created extremely hazardous recovery conditions,” ECSO said. “Through the use of controlled explosives, any further avalanche danger was mitigated.” The decedent was recovered around 5 p.m. His identity has not been released.
