Woman accused of hateful Islamophobic graffiti spree

A woman who allegedly went on an obscenity-laden Islamophobic graffiti rampage will seek to have charges against her dealt with on mental health grounds.

Bronwyn Elizabeth Nowicki faced Hornsby Local Court on Thursday, where her lawyer said she would be filing a mental health application, which if successful could see charges for vandalism dismissed.

The 53-year-old allegedly defaced public bathrooms at Hornsby Westfield, in Sydney’s upper North Shore, and CommBank Stadium at Parramatta, in the city’s west.

She has been charged with nine counts of destroying or damaging property.

According to police, Nowicki used a texta to scrawl slogans on toilet doors including, “Islam is not a religion, it is a satanic cult. Muslims f*** off to Palestine. Scarf=ugly s***.”

Police started an investigation in January over graffiti found at the Westfield shopping centre allegedly dating back to July, and were alerted to similar slogans having been plastered in the bathrooms at CommBank Stadium on February 15.

Nowicki was tracked down and arrested the same day while still inside the stadium.

Slogans from the Hornsby location allegedly included, “****** started this f*** off to Palestine. Arabs and Muslims f*** off. Go to Palestine if you want to support the dogs there.”

Graffiti in Parramatta allegedly stated: “The Mob have spoken Arabs are all terrorists and need to f*** off to Palestine”.

The matter is due to return to court on April 23.
