State Election 2025: Pauline Hanson calls former WA One Nation MP’s Austin ‘Aussie’ Trump name change ‘a joke’

Pauline Hanson has labelled a former One Nation MP’s decision to change his name to Austin “Aussie” Trump “a joke”.

Mr Trump, formerly Ben Dawkins, joined One Nation last year after being kicked out of Labor because he was convicted of breaching a violence restraining order.

Senator Hanson travelled to WA last year to welcome him to the team, but the arrangement only lasted a few months, with Mr Trump not preselected to run for the party at next month’s State election.

WA One Nation leader Rod Caddies said at the time he had failed to meet the “professionalism” standards of the right-wing party.

Mr Trump is running for upper house as an independent and will appear on the ballot as Aussie Trump after legally changing his name.

Senator Hanson, who was in WA on Tuesday to turbocharge her party’s State campaign, dismissed the move.

“It’s a joke,” she said.

“Look, what he does is his business. He has the ability to do that. He’s done it. I don’t have anything to with Ben Dawkins.”

The Senator said she was not worried One Nation might lose votes to Mr Trump.

“I don’t think they’ll be voting for Ben just because he’s got a name change,” Senator Hanson said.

“I have more confidence in the people of this State to actually vote for people with real policies.

“We didn’t endorse him. I think that says enough that I couldn’t endorse him again to be a member of Parliament.”

Mr Caddies said the party would not make preference deals at the State election but would put Labor and the Greens last.
