Code Blue alert issued for Lebanon County starts Tuesday, Feb. 18. What you should know.

A Code Blue alert has been issued by the Lebanon County Department of Emergency Services to start Tuesday because of decreasing temperatures.

The alert will start Feb. 18 at 8 a.m. and is set to end Thursday, Feb. 20, at 8 a.m. A Code Blue Alert is issued when the forecasted winter weather conditions pose an unusually high risk of severe or life-threatening exposure-related injuries.

Bob Dowd, director of the Lebanon County Department of Emergency Services, said the Weather Service is predicting extremely cold temperatures, with wind chills dropping below zero at times during the alert *******.

Lebanon County Department of Emergencies Services monitors weather conditions and issues a Code Blue Alert after consulting with community partners. Dowd said situations are evaluated on a case-by-case basis, but in general, some or all of the following criteria are met:

The temperature is predicted to fall below 20 degrees Fahrenheit for an unusually long ******* of time.

The wind chill is predicted to be 0 degrees Fahrenheit or below for an unusually long ******* of time.

Sustained temperatures below freezing with predictions estimating greater than 12 inches of snow accumulation in a relatively short ******* of time.

Any other winter weather condition that may pose an unusually high amount of risk.

During the alert, individuals and families who are unsheltered are encouraged to contact the entities below for assistance in finding temporary overnight accommodations:

Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.: Lebanon County Community Action Partnership 220 E. Lehman St., Lebanon 717-273-9328

All other hours: Lebanon County Crisis Intervention 209 Hathaway Park, Lebanon 717-274-3363

Officials said the shelters and services available during a Code Blue Alert are not affiliated with the Lebanon County Department Emergency Services.
