Ben Stein cancels Wichita speaking engagement

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Ben Stein has canceled his upcoming Wichita engagement.

The actor, author, economist, and lawyer was set to speak on March 11 at Wichita State for the 2025 Craig W. Barton Speaker Series. The announcement came in December, and free tickets to the event were gone within a day.

Wichita State says Stein informed the university last week of his need to cancel due to personal circumstances.

“We wish Ben well and hope there may be an opportunity to collaborate in the future,” said WSU President Rick Muma in a news release.

No alternate speaker has been named to speak in place of Stein for the 2025 Barton Speaker Series. The annual event at Wichita State allows students to hear from differing viewpoints to help encourage critical thinking and conversation.

WSU says the 2026 Barton Speaker Series guest will be announced later this year.
