Dominion, the classic board game app, launches new anniversary update

It’s a strange thing that in certain areas, like gaming, you can be the progenitor of many top releases and still be relatively unknown. Such is the case with Dominion, a medieval-themed deck builder widely regarded as originating the whole darned genre. And now, its mobile version is receiving a major new anniversary update with some intriguing digital-exclusive features!

While up until now Dominion has faithfully recreated the board game itself, this new update adds a major game-changer with Campaigns. As you might expect from the name this lets you play out single-player, linked campaigns to duke it out with AI opponents as you would in other releases.

These Campaigns also come in two distinctive flavours. The first is that of the Expansion Campaigns which respectively focus on each mechanic introduced in the board games’ expansions. Meanwhile, Grand Campaign (as will be familiar to Total War players) offers a randomised and infinitely replayable experience with adventures generated around a single theme.

While board game apps may be a niche within a niche for mobile, I think it’s good to see them receiving further support. Dominion’s new update also looks to focus on long-term support which means that even if you don’t have folks around to play the regular version with, you can still enjoy long-term campaign-level play at your leisure!

It’s especially heartening to see a niche product like Dominion receive long-term support, so here’s hoping that we’ll see even more additions to its beefy lineup of expansions and features in the near future!
