Rushmore bags five wickets as Two Blues walk through Hannans

Great Boulder’s direct path to the Eastern Goldfields Cricket Association’s A-grade grand final next month looks assured after they trounced Hannans on Saturday by 173 runs.

And in an ominous warning for rival teams for the upcoming finals, star all-rounder Josh Rushmore led the Two Blues’ attack with season-best figures.

A four-time O’Shaughnessy Medallist and the only player to win the EGCA’s coveted award in three consecutive seasons, Rushmore lined up in just his fifth match of the season.

But he made it count by taking 5-13 as Hannans crumbled for 35 in 16.4 overs, in reply to Great Boulder’s 9-208.

Hannans’ run chase started badly when openers James Alexander and Aarib Tareen Khan were both dismissed without scoring.

The side crashed to 3-5 with Irish international Graham Kennedy’s departure for five, and it was quickly 5-25 as Rushmore and Mewa Jeetarwal sliced through the top order.

Hannans then lost 5-4 with No.5 batter Martin Potsekayi ‘s 13 off 20 ****** the leading contribution.

No one else reached double-digits when Prash Nagaraja and Jeetarwal complemented Rushmore’s spell with 3-41 and 2-16, respectively.

It capped off an impressive sixth-consecutive win for Great Boulder, who lead the standings by three games and percentage.

For a slumping Hannans, they dropped to third spot after four successive defeats.

Great Boulder’s total was built on Daniel Tebble’s 42 off 75 ****** and Rushmore’s 38 off 60 ******.

Opener Alex Jerrard compiled 29 from 42 ****** and Waqar ali Ahmed contributed 21 off 25 deliveries.

The Two Blues lost 3-9 later in the innings, but former player-coach Dylan Hinchliffe steered them beyond 200 with an impressive 24 from 23 deliveries from the No.10 spot.

Harrison Wheatcroft, Harry Merritt-Blann, Shasa Molgaard-Angel and Alex Jago each claimed two wickets for Hannans.

Despite Great Boulder’s impressive record, the job is long way off being completed after similar dominant runs in each of the previous three seasons — only for them to falter in the grand final.

Also playing out is an absorbing battle for second and third place, and a berth in the elimination final, with North Kalgoorlie and Hannans locked on five wins.

Lake View are last but are within striking distance with four wins with three rounds of the qualifiers left.
