Bo’s triumph on Swiss soil on Saturday meant that he now has one more gold medal than compatriot and fellow biathlon legend Ole Einar Bjorndalen. He boasts a total of 39 medals in all at world championships. “It feels amazing. What a fantastic day, one of my best sprints ever. Getting the 21st victory in the world championships to make history in my last games here is unbelievably good,” Bo said. The event in Lenzerheide is set to be Bo’s last world championships as he has already announced that he will retire at the end of the season. While the 31-year-old can extend his gold-medal streak in Lenzerheide, he won’t be able to match Bjorndalen’s tally of 45 medals overall. “He’s a legend. If he kept going, he would break all of my records,” Bjorndalen told broadcaster ZDF. Bo took the lead just before the prone stage and went unchallenged from that point. He finished the 10km sprint in 21 minutes 56.8 seconds, 27.7 seconds ahead of American Campbell Wright, who claimed his maiden podium at a world championships. “I don’t think I could have had a more perfect competition. I think the team made perfect preparations. We had a good team spirit,” Bo said.
