Ocasio-Cortez says Adams ‘must be removed’

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) publicly urged New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) to resign on Thursday, echoing previous calls to remove him from leadership following his federal indictment on corruption charges.

Her statement comes after the Department of Justice (DOJ) ordered federal prosecutors to dismiss the corruption charges against Adams on Monday.

Still, Ocasio-Cortez isn’t alone in calling for his resignation.

In either case, the city would instate a temporary replacement and then hold a special election within 80 days.

New York primaries for the gubernatorial post are set to take place in June. Adams has named himself as a contender for the role and has not indicated any intention to resign.
